The Roof

The Roof is an upcoming disaster thriller game based on cleanup efforts made by liquidators in the aftermath of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster in the Soviet Union.

The full game is scheduled to be released on April 26, 2026 - in order to commemorate 40 years since the disaster began. Early access will take place sometime in 2025.

Background

From September to October 1986 - approximately 3,828 soldiers, many of them being CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) defense troops, climbed to the rooftops between Unit 3 and 4 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. 

Led by General Nikolai Tarakanov, their job was to remove dangerously radioactive debris from the same rooftops where death-struck firefighters received extreme doses of radiation just six months earlier.

Equipped with nothing but shovels and wheelbarrows and protected by nothing more than dust respirators, safety glasses, arm-length gloves and lead aprons - they sacrificed life and limb to serve their country and mitigate nuclear disaster.
